October News

Welcome back once again to all our returning and new families.  The students and staff have all settled into their new routines. Thank you to the families that have returned their hard copy and online data verification packages – if you have not returned the hard copies please do so as soon as possible.  If you are still not able to access the online forms please contact the office for assistance. We are excited to be using School Cash Online this year and have piloted it as part of the ordering of School Council lunches - we appreciate your patience as we learn the new system.

School Council kicked off two fall fundraising campaigns - the Big Box of Cards and World’s Finest Chocolate.  Special thanks to the Council volunteers that are leading these campaigns.

Two very successful fire drills as well as a lockdown practice were held in September. One additional fire drill will be carried out in October. Our Safe and Caring Schools Committee will be meeting next week to audit the safety of the school/grounds and  to discuss school climate. The committee would like to thank the Council for sponsoring the new Sensory Pathway that was installed in our main hall. On September 26th we ran to remember Terry Fox in support of the Cancer Society and on the 30th we wore Orange  to recognize the harm that the Residential School System did to First Nations, Métis and Inuit Children and to recognize that “Every Child Matters”

The Cross Country Team has trained hard in preparation for their first meet at Centennial Park on October 2nd.  Thanks goes out to Ms. Vucinich and Mme Pappalardo for leading the team as well as the other staff coaches and parent volunteers for supporting the team.  Thank you as well to Mme Rovas for starting up the kilometer club – this has helped not only our athletes in their training but also the overall fitness of our students and staff.

Friday October 11th is a professional learning day for staff.  The school will not be open for students. We look forward to working together as a team on school improvement priorities and compliance/mandatory training.

On behalf of all the staff at SAB we would like to wish all our students and their families a wonderful Thanksgiving long weekend.

Yours in education,

M. Kanalec
